apadernoSimply report the address of the site map of your website that is http://yoursite.com/sitemap.xml, if you activated the clean URLs, or http://yoursite.com/index.php?sitemap.xml differently.
The http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/ping?sitemap=[sitemap] URL is not the address of your site map, but it's the address to which the site map is submitted.

drmori CreditAttribution: drmori commentedthank you for your reply, I am still not clear on a couple of things
where do I report the address of the site map of my website?
is it by logging on to the webmasters tools , clicking "add" under my website , and then type "sitemap.xml" next to "My Sitemaps" ?
also, the file sitemap.xml does not exist on my drupal root (which is under root\MyDrupalWebsite) , should I still type the file name sitemap.xml on google webmaster tools?
thanks for the support, I am fairly new at this
p.s.
just wanted to add I have clean URLs enabled. I am hosted with godaddy, so I edited the .htaccess file in order to get it working, and it seems to be working properly.

drmori CreditAttribution: drmori commentedand also just a followup as I wasn't completely clear on that:
should I change the address under submission URL which says: http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/ping?sitemap=[sitemap]
thanks for the patience and attention

apadernoFor the first question see the attached screenshot. The URL to report must be complete, and not just be sitemap.xml.
There isn't a file named sitemap.xml, and you will never find it; xmlsitemap.module doesn't use such file for its output. Still, the site map URL is http://example.com/sitemap.xml, if you are not using more than one language in your site.
http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/ping?sitemap=[sitemap] should be just changed if Google uses a URL that is different from http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/ping, for the submission of site maps; in the other cases, the URL should not be changed.
