So say I want the following 4 collaborative books on my site categorised as follows:

Practical guides
- Bicycle maintenance
- Camping tips

Country guides
- England
- France

How would I go about organising them? Would I create two books at route level that act as the categories and then within them the first two nodes would effectivly become root nodes of the 4 books within.

Then how does taxonomy fit in to all this? Do I assign a England term to the England book, and do I have to do this to all entries I place in the England book or are they automatically inherited when they are placed inside.

i just started to "get" how to use the books, and so think this is an answer to your Q--b/c I had similar questions.

You create each book at root level. Then think either of subsequent additions outward from that item as a "page" or a "chapter" (depending upon whether there are levels beyond them).

Taxonomies are for your "drupal-at-large" space, and so can be used to coordinate pages within your books to other content entries; however, they are not required in the construction of the book. So...

Country Guides (is the book front page) [from it...]
--England (is a chapter start page) [from it...]
--cities (is a section or page)
--bicycle tours (is another page about England)

Now, if you have a "Biking" taxonomy set in your space, you might associate it with this page in your book, and with a page from your "Practical Guides" book on Bike maintenance. If I'm looking in the England book about bike trails, then I might click the taxonomy link of "Bikes" and the result would lead to a page with both that nd the maintenance page.

Does that answer your Q? Book= more explicitly "organizing of a grouped set of pages" and Taxonomy= more general "coordinating of like content."

Ok that makes sense, but the problem is if I have 3 chapters in my country guides (England, France and Spain) the problem is I get a huge long list of all the contents. Is there anyway to stop all the levels showing?

Also, if I were wanting to be a little more creative graphically could I use an image to indicate the chapter, or book, or perhaps a nicely designed page for each chapter heading, just to break up the monotony a bit?
