If you still have a problem, please check this patch:
#221257: text_summary() should output valid HTML and Unicode text, and not count markup characters as part of the text length
It may very well fix your problem which I guess could very well be a duplicate issue.

greg.harveyWow, it's been so long since I touched this I have no idea if this would fix the problem. Let's mark it as a dupe, unless someone re-opens.
