I am trying to add new files in the CVS repository for XML Sitemap, but I cannot.
All times I try, I get a message error saying cvs add: in directory `.': cvs [add aborted]: there is no version here; do `cvs checkout' first. I also deleted the directory containing the copy of the CVS repository on my PC, and checked out the project files again, but that doesn't help as I still get the same error message.
I also tried creating a new branch of the project, but when I tried to add the files I recently created, I got the same message.

The previous commit I did was to remove three files from the project, and that has been done without errors.

I set the priority to critical because I am worried anybody will get this error when they try to add new files into the CVS repository.

Is this the right issue queue to report errors about CVS?
If I have a request to remove files from CVS, where should I open the request?
Thanks for any help.

I resolved my problem by including the code of the new files into existing files.
Still, the problem of adding new files exists.

Title:Impossible to add new files into CVS» CVS add aborted: there is no version on CVS server

When I try a command like cvs add contributions/modules/ssitemap (where ssitemap doesn't exist on my PC) I still get that error.
When I try a command like cvs add contributions/modules/ssitemap (where the directory exists in my PC) I still get the same error.
When I try a command like cvs add contributions/modules/xmlsitemap (which already exists in CVS), I still get that message error.

I would think the message error I get back should be that the directory doesn't exist on my PC (in the fist case), and that the directory already exists in CVS (in the second case).

To complete the report, I don't get any errors when I commit into the CVS repository of XML Sitemap (if I don't create any new files, or directories).

I also created a different directory and executed cvs checkout -l contributions/modules there, but when I try to add a new directory I still get the same error; if they I try cvs checkout contributions/modules/xmlsitemap I get the cvs server: cannot find module `contribution/modules/xmlsitemap' - ignored followed by cvs [checkout aborted]: cannot expand modules.

There is definitively something wrong on the server side.

Category:bug» support

It seems it's just me who is not able to add new files or directories into CVS repository. I tried all the suggested commands, but I still not able to create new files, or directories.

Does anybody have an idea on how to fix this?

I resolved the issue, but I still not understand why I must now execute the command differently.
Before I gave the command from parent directory of contributions (and giving the complete path); now I have first to cd into that directory.
