Hello and welcome to this Starshot Demo Design System (SDDS) meeting!
This meeting:
➤ Is for people who want to contribute to (or are just curious about) the SDDS project including designers, developers, testers, documentation writers, and other roles.
➤ Happens every other Tuesday at 7pm UTC (9pm Tue CEST | 12:30am Wed IST | 6am Wed AEST | 12pm Tue at PDT).
➤ Is done over chat.
➤ Happens in threads, which you can follow to be notified of new replies even if you don’t comment in the thread. You may also join the meeting later and participate asynchronously!
➤ *Transcript will be exported and posted* to the agenda issue. For anonymous comments, start with a :bust_in_silhouette: emoji. To take a comment or thread off the record, start with a :no_entry_sign: emoji.
:zero: Who is here today? Comment in the thread to introduce yourself. We’ll keep the meeting open for 24 hours for all time zones. Optional fun fact: what's the most fun Halloween (or other) costume you've worn?
:one: Do you have suggested topics you are looking to discuss? Post in this thread, and we’ll open threads for them as appropriate.
:two: Weekly updates: What have you been working on? What’s up next? Need assistance with anything? Any blockers?
:three: Celebrations 🎉 What wins have you had since the last meeting? Share your successes!
:four: Give thanks 🙌 A space for callouts to other contributors who’ve helped you
:five: Does anyone need a synchronous meeting this week to discuss a blocker or critical issue?
:six: I’m not sure where to start, but I want to contribute to SDDS.
:seven: Please continue the conversation in the threads or start a new (numbered) topic below this... threads are "officially" open for 24 hours to provide async collaboration in all time zones
:eight: People are working on other Starshot/CMS initiatives these days so it would be cool to know what... where is your focus?
0️⃣ Who is here today? Comment in the thread to introduce yourself. We’ll keep the meeting open for 24 hours for all time zones. Optional fun fact: what's the most fun Halloween (or other) costume you've worn?
| Kristen Pol (she/her) | Kristen, California  not sure it was the most interesting costume but I have a photo of me in grade school dressed up as a chef with the hat and a whisk, etc and a school friend was dressed up like a chicken so we posed together and it was super cute |
| Dang Tran | Dang, from Texas. Just a fun fact, where I grew up don't celebrate Halloween, so I used to think Halloween costumes are about scary. Until I worked for a foreign country, I saw my colleagues dressing up as bunnies and a chefs, I realized Halloween costumes can be super cute 🙂 |
2️⃣ Weekly updates: What have you been working on? What’s up next? Need assistance with anything? Any blockers?
| Kristen Pol (she/her) | Been focused on BADCamp that happened last week and I got to do the keynote (touched upon Starshot a bit at the end)... we've also been looking into AI for improving efficiency |
| Kristen Pol (she/her) | I've been recovering a bit from the frenzy of prep/activity from Barcelona+BADCamp but plan to help clean up some of the additional components in November so there are more things to test for Singapore... happy to have help 🙂 |
| Kristen Pol (she/her) | Jacob may not chime in here as he's been focused on some AI stuff but has also been helping with demo code cleanup and testing |
| Kristen Pol (she/her) | I am still thinking about doing a webinar with a live demo before Singapore but not 100% sure |
| Kristen Pol (she/her) | Oh! And I submitted a design system talk for DrupalCon Atlanta that will be informed by the SDDS+XB work |
3️⃣ Celebrations :tada: What wins have you had since the last meeting? Share your successes!
| Kristen Pol (she/her) | The recording from my keynote last week at BADCamp is available… talk about Starshot a bit at the endhttps://youtu.be/e2OBvrABRI4?si=XNdz0kLEzJ-JD5ff |
4️⃣ Give thanks :raised_hands: A space for callouts to other contributors who’ve helped you
| Kristen Pol (she/her) | Thanks to @Dang Tran for the component comparison against the d.o redesign wor[#3479255] |
| Dang Tran | Thanks @Kristen Pol (she/her)! Seeing other developers approaches on SDC brings me a some questions about how to use them effectively. Should everything (elements, container, layout, etc.) be built by SDC? Grids, containers are using on all themes, so maybe Drupal core should have some built-in SDC layout components. Looks like I need to have a guideline about building theme design system using SDC. |
| Kristen Pol (she/her) | These are definitely things we need to think about when designing the design system that is used with XB by default Layouts will be added to XB so those won’t need to be in the design system but we did some interesting things like having a column component where you could change it from 1 to 4 and it only shows those slots… not sure how the UX will be for layouts in XB but maybe @lauriii might add his thoughts |
5️⃣ Does anyone need a synchronous meeting this week to discuss a blocker or critical issue?
| Kristen Pol (she/her) | I'm good for now :+1: |
6️⃣ I’m not sure where to start, but I want to contribute to SDDS.

7️⃣ Please continue the conversation in the threads or start a new (numbered) topic below this... threads are "officially" open for 24 hours to provide async collaboration in all time zones
1️⃣ (whoops... forgot this one above) Do you have suggested topics you are looking to discuss? Post in this thread, and we’ll open threads for them as appropriate.
| Kristen Pol (she/her) | People are working on other Starshot/CMS initiatives these days so it would be cool to know what (edited) |
8️⃣ People are working on other Starshot/CMS initiatives these days so it would be cool to know what... where is your focus?
| Kristen Pol (she/her) | I'm primarily still focused on XB, SDDS and the advisory council but am in the chats for recipes, project browser and components so follow along a bit there as well |
