Hi everyone,

I am very new to drupal. And I have a client that would like to create a site that is similar to blogger, except for a specific industry.

Is this something that is possible? What would the best way to create this be?

Blogger currently sets up something like john.blogger.com as its URL, but I think that they would be happy just to have a link into the each individuals blog page.

would drupal be a good tool to do this?

It's certainly possible; check out Urban Vancouver for the best example I know.

Though, I personally can't say it'd be the best tool. Have you looked at LiveJournal?

that is very simple to do in drupal - simply enable the blog module and you are there.

Extension modules can enhance the experience, for example with user specific theming etc. But in the essence it just works out of the box.

The blog module allows users to create their own blogs - admin doesn't have to do it for them? That would be very good.

Is it possible to make individual blogs private, so no one but the writer can read them?

Thanks for the info.

You mentioned user specific theming, the only thing that I saw that seemed to apply was the "Blog Theme" module. Is this the one that you where thinking of?

But if I understand that correctly then if a user makes a blog and writes a article then all of the items that are attached to him have his selected theme. Is this true?

Is this the best way of doing this? Or is there a better module to do this?

I'm new to Drupal, so I have more questions than answers.

I looked at the Block Theme module. That gives user-level control of a blog's appearance - an interesting feature, but not quite what I was looking for.

Basically I'm looking for user-level control of access. LiveJournal does this well. User areas start off as private, and then the individual decides who can see what within their content area. That's what I want to be able to implement, but the only modules I found that control access are role-based.
