This meeting:
➤ Is for Drupal community members interested in how to better organize, promote, and improve contribution events. We discuss upcoming events, lessons learned from past events, ideas for increasing event participation, how to improve documentation, and more.
➤ Happens every two weeks in alternating timezones: 5:30pm UTC Mondays (starting 23 May 2022) and 5am UTC Tuesdays (starting 6 June 2022).

gusaus	Also... if I can be lazy and just copy in part of this comment...I'm particularly interested in seeing if we can leverage the Open Collective project to streamline sponsorship and donations (could be a goal of SustainDrupal if we found a few folks interested in that type of initiative) AND their community (which consists of folks from 3000+ open source projects including Drupal and WordPress).

3️⃣ Did you participate in a contribution event recently? Feedback?

leslieg	Mentored at DrupalCon Portland in mentored contribution room on Wednesday and Thursday. My primary focus was Project Browser. Mentor leads did a great job sending folks that were a good fit to our table. Other mentors that helped out were new but were great. Thanks all
Tinto	Last week, while in Kuala Lumpur, I organised the first Drupal Malaysia Contribution Meetup. I made a small presentation, introducing the Bug Smash Initiative, how to get started contributing to Drupal core and calling on all attendees to organise their own Drupal contribution meetups.

Kristen Pol (she/her)	There is a plan to create a Drupal 10 Porting Day/Weekend similar to the D9 ones in 2020... but that will happen after the Project Update Bot can create rector patches for all projects and add an issue with it attached

hestenet (he/him)	Need to look at it more closely, but I think it makes sense... making that a multiselect field might cause some weirdness we need to look at.
gusaus	I'd suggest that creating documentation could be part of a related contribution event(s) and see if new contributors could become involved
Tinto	I’m hoping to use the slides of my presentation at the Drupal Malaysia Contribution Meetup and turn them into a boilerplate for organisers of similar events. Haven’t gotten around to it yet though (they’re still a bit too specific for last week’s event).

Chris Darke	We have a mix of different slides from previous years of First Time Contribution workshops that I would love to get turned into a boilerplate.. just needs a bit of consensus.. from mentoring leads which we can discuss as well. We have active documention work regarding the contribution event in regards to mentoring, will need to make sure it's cross referenced, but I can't remember where it is right now. We also have spreadsheets for skills, and videos on YouTube that can be leveraged

gusaus	I've been talking with folks from their team on/off the years. We were using Open Social for #drupal-dojo before it stalled out again.Seems like there's potential to centralize 'all' contribution events on one site - which would make it easier for a program like Dojo (still the largest Drupal group) to make another go at it.
Gábor Hojtsy (he/him)	I don’t think all contribution would centralise on one site, but this is a good place to offer to host events :slightly_smiling_face:
Gábor Hojtsy (he/him)	The existing opensocial site offers events, groups and topics. Events can have a free video conference (big blue button), which works pretty well based on our prior experience. So no zoom subscription required. BBB also offers breakout rooms if needed, which makes it easier to jump around “tables” and be together with a “welcome lobby”.
Gábor Hojtsy (he/him)	The UX could be better but the functionality is there and it can be used with a little bit of docs.
gusaus	I'm sure several camps and meetup groups have a site for their own contribution events.Think it could be valuable to provide organizers with an 'option' of using a centralized site to run their own contribution events.Could also open up some possibilities for experimenting with marketing, sponsorship, crediting contributions, and integrating/connecting with drupal.org and Gitlab.
gusaus	That said, I think it's important for folks from the Events initiative to be aware/involved as there seems to be some overlap and opportunities to collaborate.
Kristen Pol (she/her)	Agreed that it has be a great tool for running contribution events and is a great option for many events, particularly remote and hybrid events

liberatr (he/him)	In many cases, the maintainer is using that software in production.from @Webbeh’s linkStable software is not immutable software. Version numbering makes this obvious.(edited)
Webbeh	TR has argued the semantics of "stable" (#3213740: Release stable Drupal 9 version) and sullice's blog post implies just doing the damn thing and releasing a stable release so it can be covered

liberatr (he/him)	Ok so I would say create an issue on a Drupal project — called something like “Stable release bounties for the week of May 23 - May 30” and then track all the releases from that week (somehow) — they are entered into the pool of Uncle Ryan’s Piggy Bank. Then we close the issue, but use some sort of a tag, so whenever the pot has some money in it, we can link to the latest open issue and stick that link in the issue template.
liberatr (he/him)	Assuming there would be some way to track projects and see which ones moved from non-stable to stable — is the data from the Drupal 10 readiness tracker good enough for that?

gusaus	Well... I mean D9 readiness is probably related to one of the DA goals.

gusaus	Regardless... I think it would make sense to create an Open collective for this - ideally the DA could be the host org.Apologies for the Open Collective speak. I've been more involved with that community for the past several years.

Guess I'll just copy in my comment since it's now an agenda item :grinning:A couple of the learning/mentoring programs are a bit off the radar because they haven't been active for a long time. Especially if we're able to centralize all contribution events on an existing platform that we can extend to incentivize and credit sponsors and contributors.While they are currently archived, with some new organizers involved we could enable to sustain the program (https://opencollective.com/drupaldojo) and the organizers/mentors and other contributors involved (https://opencollective.com/drupalopenlearning). If the latter is hosted by Open Collective Foundation, interested organizers could potentially make it a full-time job w/ benefits!As an admin of all these groups and collectives, I'd be happy to talk and collaborate with (in a limited capacity) any folks interested in leading/organizing/contributing.
