Hi,

I would need an additional field of informations (2 actually) that people would need to fill in during sign up and that must be researchable by other members.

Namely one is location (area, not a precise address) and I would like users to be able to search for users in a certain location.

Is that possible and how ?

Thanks in advance

Easy! use the profile module which comes as part of any core Drupal install.

Great !
And thanks ! Probably one of the many features I had overlooked. I thought strange something so basic had not been included... now I don't have to wonder about it anymore.

BTW any way of making one such field directly linked to events (ie make appear events only related to this information) ?

Text fields created with profile are NOT searchable.

But apparently freeforms are. Thanks ! I will change that !

Unfortunately freeforms are not searchable either. Replacing text fields by freeforms is a workaround that hardly solves the problem.
What freeforms do that text fields don't, is that freeforms generate links to users' lists that have filled the freeforms with the same string.
So, if your 'location' field is of freeform type, and you want to view a list of users in New York, you have to previously know at least one user whose location is New York. Then you view his profile and click over 'New York' to go to a list of all users in New York. Optionally, you can visit yoursite/profile/profile_location/New+York, where profile_location is your freeform field called 'location'. But if you search for 'New York' via Drupal's search form, the users in that location still won't be found.
