I ran into this when trying to update a field module to D6. After trying it out I decided it wasn't working right yet in D6 and disabled it, but it never got marked inactive in the fields database and bits and pieces of the field info follow me around the site creating odd errors.
I'm posting a fix to make sure that fields get set to inactive when their modules are disabled.
