I'm running Drupal 6.4. I need a WYSIWYG editor that allows users to click a button and upload an image. I've searched the forums and found 1) lots of people want this and 2) there's no clear documentation on how to do it.
Most of the posts said I need tinyMCE and the WYSIWYG module. So I've installed those. This part actually worked and got me part way there. I now have a working WYSIWYG editor but when you click the image button it asks for a local path to an image instead of offering a browse button for image uploads. This is useless for the average non-technical user. A file browse button is needed so the user can upload the image.
One forum post said I needed the drupalimage plugin for tinyMCE found in the img_assist module. I've installed img_assist but the instructions for installing drupalimage appear out of date. They reference a file that doesn't exist (/modules/tinymce/plugin_reg.php). I tried creating the file and adding the recommend lines but it didn't result in any change to tinyMCE. (yes, I've cleared browser cache, Drupal cache, and all the usual things).
Next I found a post that said I need the IMCE module. I installed IMCE, found it made no improvement in tinyMCE's image upload capability and returned the forums. Another post says in addition to installing IMCE, I have to follow these instructions ( http://drupal.org/node/241753#comment-792305 ) and copy some additional code into the template.php file. Sadly, this doesn't work either. Best I can tell, these instructions are also for some outdated version of Drupal or the modules.
So, long story short, I've gotten nowhere. I'm either trying the wrong things or trying the right things in the wrong way. Has anyone successfully gotten image upload to work with a WYSIWYG editor in the current version of Drupal? If so, can you point me to some instructions that actually work? Please please please. Thanks!
