Recent updates to SitemapGeneratorBase.php from this issue - https://www.drupal.org/project/simple_sitemap/issues/3051700 seems to be causing invalid pagination links to be generated if the site is multi-lingual with path prefixes.
For example, if the sitemap URL is /sitemap.xml, and the default language of the site is /en, then the paginated links are generated as /en/sitemap.xml?page=1 (which doesn't work) instead of /sitemap.xml?page=1.
