I have a content type with a username field. When I set up a views summary based on the Content: User reference: Username (field_user) it returns the UID not the username in the summary. Is there a way to show the username without hacking the view_view_summary.tpl.php file ?

Indeed, we need to add a specific arguments handler for userref fields.
I guess this will also be needed for noderef fields - haven't checked.
