Description:
In previous versions of Drupal 8, base fields with existing data stored in the shared entity tables could not be uninstalled, which in turn meant that modules providing base fields to other entity types were also not able to be uninstalled.
Starting with Drupal 8.5.0, all base fields can be safely uninstalled. Their existing data will be moved from the shared tables to a dedicated one and it will be gradually purged on cron.
Impacts:
Site builders, administrators, editors
Module developers
