I was surprised to learn that this module cannot be installed without composer.
How can I install this module on basic shared hosting?
If this is no longer possible, then what lead to this decision and what were the arguments to making this step?

bojanz CreditAttribution: bojanz at Centarro commentedThis explains why Composer became required for D8 site building, and what we've recently done to make it optional:

We'll document the Ludwig installation method for next release.
Generally, for shared hosting you'd run Composer locally and then upload the result, making your hosting type not matter much.

groovedork CreditAttribution: groovedork commentedHaving to run composer locally is, in my opinion, still a significant diminishing of the functionality that Drupal used to offer before (upload and go). For me the WYSIWYG nature of Drupal is what made it stand out.
So I'm very grateful that you created Ludwig! It looks great, and it helps sitebuilders keep things simple. You guys rock!
