Problem/Motivation

The selected item looks like plain text. As a result, users would not expect that this leads to a semantic link relationship.
The display is even worse than entity references, where the target is additionally identified via its id.
For instance Project: "Linkit - Enriched linking experience (719864)"

Proposed resolution

Linkit should additionally put some indicator to the field (could be some additional indentation left, with some link icon prepended)
Or it could be some label outline (like select2) that indicates it's a concept / item selected and not just text in a field.

That is somewhat questionable as a lot of people complain about that ID and are confused by it.

But agreed that just text is strange.

Yeah, i'm for sure against using IDs at all as identifiers in the UI and i appreciate core removed them in all admin lists.

It's a technical thing, but at least it is nut just the label text - and that number makes it recognisable. I would prefer a less technical, less text-like recognition. ;-)

Are this when using Linkit with fields? I that case, the version in this issue is wrong.

I experience this with the patch applied from #2712951: Linkit for Link field
But i also see the same effect when looking at the WYSIWYG element:
linkit wysiwyg

If i pick an entity with label "test" it looks like the text "test" IS my link.
This is even more relevant when i edit a link.
The user has absolutely zero awareness that an existing link he edits is a concept instead of a text.

Oops, fixing summary. And proving second screen.

And yeah it's about 8.5. :-)

This has been an issue before, but on the other side. Showing a link didn't tell the users what the link actually linked too.

I'm gladly taking ideas here how to improve the GUI, but lets focus on the WYSIWYG UI, as Linkit for fields are not in Linkit core yet.
