I came across this issue when building some View displays today—which was perplexing to track down. What happened was that the last item being displayed in a Views field collection would have multiple links back to the parent node of the last item in a collection. Probably because these view displays were built as pages, these links would repeat (normally 5x), being placed in the footer.

Here's a screen grab of the console output of one of these displays where this is occurring, seen as an anonymous user:

Not sure of what was causing this, I toggled through the settings for every display in this view. Through trial-and-error, I was able to track down the issue--it was caused by rewriting the output of text fields to trim to a maximum number of characters. Once this setting was removed, allowing the field to display at its full length, the issue was resolved.

Is this to be expected, or is it a bug?

Thanks for the report, I think we can safely say that this is not expected behaviour.

Did the field contain HTML and was 'Field can contain HTML' checked?

Did it help to enable 'Strip HTML tags'?

You talk about 'Views field collection', as in, you used the Field Collection module? Did you have this problem with any other type of field?
