Publish/unpublish option 7.x backport

Problem/Motivation

Would be great to get #2210371: Publish/unpublish option backported to 7.x. Of course the implementation will differ slightly from what was done for 8.x as there's no way to control the display of a field on the form via the "Manage form display" tab.

Tests should be extended as well.
