using multistepwizard, maps in entity page view not loading

I have had this issue posted under ctools multistep wizard for over 1 month and had no response.
I'm hoping I can get some help here.
I'm using the ctools multistep wizard to modally display page views of entities which include maps. The problem is that the maps initially are not displayed, although there is space provided on the page for them. So there is a gap or empty space on the page for the map. The maps use very standard geofieid 2.3, geocoder 1.3, geofield map 2.3 and google map. I have had problems and tried two slightly different integration approaches wrapping with entity_view and drupal_render one with ctools_modal_form_render the other with ctools_modal_render. Both methods work but the maps are not displayed unless I use a two step approach. So if use one method the maps don't display. If I then cancel and retry with the other method the maps display correctly. It doesn't matter which order the methods are used in, the first try they never display the maps the second they always displays them.
