Why on freakin' earth do I have to do THIS:

https://www.drupal.org/docs/8/choosing-a-drupal-version/which-version-of...

To see what version of Drupal I'm running!? Learn from Wordpress, put it in the damn footer of the admin!

Whoah, what a first impression of this. I simply don't believe this, it HAS to be me missing something totally obvious, please tell me I'm right. If not what will it be like to actually USE the system!? Not looking forward ...

Huh, and below I'm asked which version best applies to my post: I can choose between 4.5.x or older up to 4.7.x!? I've download SOME version of 8.x at least ... man oh boy, I'm in for a bumpy ride here.

If this is bothering you, you may want to jump ship now. It's only going to get more frustrating.

Thanks for the heads up. Yeah, that was kind of the gut feeling i got. But it's a must for the client ... boy am I going to bancrupt him.

Based on this reaction to something quite minor, the client really should run from this outfit.

Also worthy to note that if your expecting the community to support you in your Drupal journey, you may want to think about your own first impressions when introducing yourself to any community.

I am wondering why that version number is so important to you. If you're running Update Manager module (and you should be if you don't otherwise follow new releases or run updates routinely), you will see a message in the admin UI and get an email notification if there is a new version available. Otherwise, you are running the latest version. The only reason you would need to know which version you're running is if you're reporting a bug or having some kind of module conflict.
