According to documentation of the Date module the CCK "Date" field should ask whether this is a recurring date. I do not see any option to do this.

It's one of the 'multiple' options -- you can choose to have 1-10 values, or unlimited values, or make it a repeating date. Lots of people are missing this, so I probably need to make it more clear. I'll turn this into a task.
