This is similar to #2746705: Offer to co-maintain the Site Verify module (to deprecate it), but rather the depreciate the project completely in favor of metatag_verify we'd move towards using metatag for storage while keeping a simpler UI that doesn't force users to fight with Google's copy full metatag UI. @kevincrafts also pointed out in https://github.com/CuBoulder/express/issues/1028#issuecomment-298402434 that the file feature of this module is still the only option when users are locked out of an account. Google doesn't support metatag verification for that.

kreynen CreditAttribution: kreynen at University of Colorado Boulder commentedUpdating to maintain vs. co-maintain. Dave Reid is obviously not interested in maintaining this. We have this implemented on ~1,000 sites for the University of Colorado and would prefer to own the project.
