I want to disable content creation for content types Article and Page for users with a certain role. I disabled User Permissions for "Article: Create new content" and "Basic page: Create new content" but when accessing "Add content" page (node/add) with this user role, this content types still show up and also can be created.

That is not reproducible. What other node modules permissions does that role have?

Sorry, my fault! User had permission "Bypass content access control", after removing this permission everything works as expected and neither Page nor Article content can be created.
