Is there a way to choose the compression (bz2 instead of the default gzip) for scheduled database backups? (or is it planned, and if not can we make it a feature request for drupal 8)

Another user made a similar request at this issue which has been closed as a duplicate: The default drupal database file is not in .rar format. The user also mentions .tar in the comment, so it is unclear which format, or both, may be requested.

Looks like compression options are active for manual downloads with the alpha 2 release on April 4, 2017. See attached screenshot for drop-down menu with GZip, BZip, and Zip options. So, to clarify, you are requesting that the compression options be added to the scheduled downloads page, correct?

You can now do this by creating a new settings profile with the compression settings you want to use.
