Live stream: Custom front page in Drupal 8 using Views

I'm going to live stream some Drupal site building. We're going to cover one of the questions most frequently asked by people new to Drupal: ‘How do I change what's on the front page?’

We will start with a fresh Drupal install, and by the end of the stream we will have a Drupal front page that consists of:

• three article teasers, followed by;
• ten more recent articles;
• ten most commented articles;
• recent comments in the sidebar, and;
• avatars of new users in the sidebar.

The stream will work best if people comment, get involved, ask questions or just chat, so please join us!

I hope this is appropriate for the Drupal forums. Also mods, is it okay to post about future streams here, please? It feels a little spammy to self-promote like this but it's relevant, (hopefull) useful and there's no way of getting the word out if I don't! :)
