Hi after I installed and started to configure the backup module my site got messed up.

The colour of my theme is gone and all the used images are not shown anymore...

I had to define a private file system path in the file system settings.

I created a new folder in sites/default/files and gave it 755 rights.

Maybe something went wrong with the rights...

Does somebody know what the cause could be?

Yes that is probably a problem where the shift between private and public folders isn't configured correctly. It is likely that this is not a problem with the code in backup_migrate.
