Multilingual views slideshow on untranslated image field doesn't work

First of all, this is almost certainly related to one of the issues at #2313159: [meta] Make multilingual views work, but I thought I'd report it here.

If I create a multilingual content type, with an image field that's *not* translated (I want the images to be shared between my English and French content), and then create a views slideshow out of those images, both images actually show up, but there's no slideshow, they're simply displayed one after another. The English language content slideshow works just fine.

If I then go to the Regional and Language settings, modify the translation so that the image fields are translated, go back to my alternate language content and upload images for that content, the view appears to work correctly.

I'm not sure this is strictly a views issue. It feels like the data is being processed properly by views, but views slideshow is struggling to make those images into a slideshow.

I've got to move on with this project (translating the image field and uploading the graphics twice let's me meet my deadline), so my apologies for not providing a sample site to work with.
