Hi,

We are wondering if it's better to migrate our Wordpress Woocommerce webshop Patipada.nl to Drupal.
The reason for investigation is that the CMS becomes slower. For now it's ok, but when the number of visitors and products increases more than it already does, it might become a problem.
Does anyone have experience with this and can tell is this is a 'go' or 'no go'?

Thanks,

I would say that if this is your only reason to switch, I would not bother. Drupal is going to have the same issue. Ability to scale is not limited either platform. I would focus on performance enhancements in Wordpress and on your server. Migrating will just add more of a headache. You will need to learn drupal, migrate everything and still be in the same position.

Hi Nicoz,

Thank you for your honesty. Somebody told me that Wordpress is not meant to build webshops so that's why I was searching for other opportunities.
But maybe I have to ask some other web-developer, which is specialized in Woocommerce.

Thanks!

I would wager a guess that this person also works in a platform, other than wordpress. No matter the platform, you are only as good as the developer you use.

I once had a client that rebuilt her platform several times in one year and went broke doing so.

She went from Drupal to wordpress, because a wordpress developer told her that drupal sucked and wordpress was better.

She then went from Wordpress to Joomla, because a Joomla developer said that Wordpress sucked and Joomla was better.

She came to me in the end to take her back to Drupal as she personally liked it better.

Each have the pros and pain points.

Haha, yes I can imagine. I will check with some more Woocommerce developers than ;-)
Have a nice weekend!

I agree that is speed is the only reason a potentially expensive move to Drupal is probably not the answer. The professional approach is to work out why the speed is slow then find a targetted solution. The optimist's approach is to try something different without first getting a diagnosis, in the hope it is will be better! I would to a good hard look at the server where your site is running.
Another issue about migrating to Drupal is that it is arguably too early to migrate to Drupal Commerce on Drupal 8, so maybe worth waiting. Of course Drupal Commerce for Drupal 7 is perfectly capable.

We are working on adding a shop to our drupal installation too.

The core features of the Drupal Commerce module make it possible to quickly get a basic eCommerce website running. With this module you can: add and display products, manage orders, establish payment methods through a variety of gateways, support tax and VAT calculation, offer discounted pricing, and more.

Additionally, dozens of contributed modules extend the eCommerce capabilities of Drupal Commerce to include: coupons, invoicing, PayPal integration, Amazon and Ebay integration, include a physical store locator, and more.
