What would cause this?

I am unable to access any admin pages in Drupal 7.

How can I check what version of Drupal if I can not navigate anywhere?

The content from a user's view is accessible.

It is just that nothing can be seen in the back end to manage content

I will start again and make another video showing this.

one method would be that you look at the CHANGELOG.txt file included in your main folder on the server. If you've uploaded it then you can pull it up in your browser by navigating directly to the file. http://www.arguemax.com/_drupal-7.26/CHANGELOG.txt

good news is you aren't using Drupal 7.26 as your path indicates but 7.41.

A list of modules can be put together with a screenshot of those in sites/all/modules or by navigating directly to the module list

I have an idea now on how to fix this.

But it is going to take a lot of time. It is basically starting over and move the mods over one at a time.

I looked into Drupal 8 and there does not seem to be themes well developed for Drupal 8 yet.

based on the theme of your current site, you can use any base theme to recreate. What should determine the move to D8 is whether the features you require are available in contrib.
