The content from a user's view is accessible.

one method would be that you look at the CHANGELOG.txt file included in your main folder on the server. If you've uploaded it then you can pull it up in your browser by navigating directly to the file. http://www.arguemax.com/_drupal-7.26/CHANGELOG.txt
good news is you aren't using Drupal 7.26 as your path indicates but 7.41.

I looked into Drupal 8 and there does not seem to be themes well developed for Drupal 8 yet.

based on the theme of your current site, you can use any base theme to recreate. What should determine the move to D8 is whether the features you require are available in contrib.
