Please can anyone shed some lights on the main differences between Drupal and Moodle?

Moodle allows you to create a special purpose site, focussed on LMS.

So, do you want a site of type: blog, forum, shop, bulletin board, wikipedia, lms ? You could use any of those special purpose tools or use a general purpose tool like Drupal.

Obviously, when you want a site that can't be squeezed into one of those types, you need a general purpose tool or a combination of the special purpose ones.

You could use Drupal to create Moodle, you can't use Moodle to create Drupal.

Moodle is an Open Source Learning Management System, specifically designed for delivering elearning courses.

Drupal is a standard CMS, a platform that allows you to create a website in a simplified way. A Drupal website can be used for education purposed but it's just a way to use it.

we can say Moody is a tailor-made CMS specially designed for educational setup, but Drupal is a general purpose CMS which still needs further customization to solve above problems.

Selecting Moodle and customizing it, is a better option in terms of cost of development. Selecting Drupal is a better option in terms of scaling and for high degree of customization.

If you are looking for an out of the box Learning Management System (LMS), Moodle is a great choice. If you are looking for a Content Management System (CMS) that can be customized for Learning Management, Drupal would be a good choice. There are many Drupal modules that would provide the functionality that is included with Moodle. You can not easily modify Moodle to do all the things that Drupal can do.
