It may be a long shot but I'm seeking help with a few issues on an almost-complete site that I have built. There are some things I can't resolve:

--Taxonomy display: my taxonomy term landing pages are displaying with a "read more" link that I don't want. I was also trying to remove comments on the same pages and have just disabled the core comment module to solve the problem. But that's not the ideal solution if I want to allow comments on specific content types.

--Taxonomy views with parent/child relationships--can't get them to display "with depth"

--Feeds--I've used feeds to create 2,000 image nodes. It works, sort of. As I understand it, Feeds doesn't create the file, it only references what is on the server. I tried it and the created nodes are not attached to any file. So I FTP'd the files to the server and ran the import. It works but even though it won't create the file in the first case, it does create another file with _0 at the end of every file such as "filename_0.jpg". So instead of 2,000 files in my images folder I have 4,000. I can delete the original ones but for updates this is a problem. In that case, another set of 2,000 files is created with _0_0.jpg. There is an option to "replace file" in the Feeds configuration but that didn't work either.

--I've searched EVERYWHERE for a way to bulk edit captions. I'm using ImageFieldCaption module. I've tried using VBO to do this but since it's not really a "field" but an attribute (like "alt text" and "title"), it is not exposed as an option when configuring VBO. I used feeds to add "alt text" and "title" but Feeds doesn't have any option to use caption. I need to add 2,000 captions.

--Need to get key|value pairs (multiple) in a field to display properly on the node pages and a few other minor items.

This is a site geared toward conservation and nature that I'm creating as a labor of love so there's no income on my end. I tried Display Suite for some of the problems but couldn't make that work. I've been searching for answers through google and drupal.org, installing modules and uninstalling when they don't work. I've tried IRC but didn't get any responses to questions. I've gone to Drupal User Groups meetings in the past but found them to be more for general information and not suited for specific questions. I may be able to pay a small amount if anyone has time to help me, but obviously this is not a big-ticket job. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

far better off with one question per thread ... Also worthy to note that the assumption will be that the features you discussing are simply core features and not listings via views etc? particularly the taxonomy display. I don't see a read more in on the defaults listings provided by core. Screenshots are always a good idea.

also failed to indicate which version of Drupal is in use. Based on the features you speak of it's D7 but can't be sure.

Yes, apologies for not stating. I am using D7 and thanks for your response. The reason I listed all of the problems is to possibly help point me in the direction to find one person to help me sort through the remaining issues hands-on. I am not opposed to working on them one by one but I haven't been successful in resolving the problems doing that. I've been a site-builder for years but my level of expertise in more complicated issues is lacking.

Yes, the taxonomy display I am speaking of is the default taxonomy landing pages. I've created taxonomy vocabularies and terms which provides a link for the taxonomy term on the content pages. If you follow the link, the list of taxonomy terms provided includes comments and a "read more" link.

Views "read more" link -
- The "read more" link is a feature of the Views pager. See the middle column of the View configuration. There is an item in the Page section called "more link" click it and selection no.

Thank you--this is not a view. It is the default taxonomy display--see above.

You can override the default taxonomy term display mechanism using the taxonomy views integration (TVI) module, with which you can assign your own view to display taxonomy terms in any way you like.

The TVI module is your friend for this purpose.

However, somebody else may know how to override the built in taxonomy term display behavior, in some other way.

To turn off comments on content nodes, go to the content type page for the content type(s) and turn off comments there. You don't need to disable the comments module entirely. That would be "dumb".

If you want the comments on "full content" node pages, but not within a Views display, select the fields display instead of teaser or full content. Then select all the fields desired, including "default" for the body field, and the nodes will display without comment links displayed.

Thank you, sprite. I'm aware of the content type setting for comments. This is not a content type, it is a taxonomy term.

When searching for answers to drupal questions via google, use the following syntax to restrict the results to articles only on drupal.org

google search query: ' {query string" site:drupal.org'

That is helpful info, but usually I get better search results in Google. I always find related articles better than in Drupal's search. The many Drupal shops out there have some really good tutorials and problem resolution documentation! I have resolved other issues by doing this, but these issues remain.

You misunderstood ...

My recommendation is that you use Google to search the drupal.org website, in addition to search the web globally.

Please carefully re-read my instructions about how to use Google search to search the drupal.org website, again, using Google search !!!!!!!

Please read my comment again, more carefully, since it uses the phrase "google search query" multiple times.

@sprite Sounds like you are the one that doesn't want to understand! Restricting your search to only drupal.org is very bad advice. As explained, there is much valid information and advice to be found outside of drupal.org !

sprite’s picture

I am not suggesting that she only search drupal.org.
I only provided a recipe for doing so.

You should re-read her post, wherein her comment was that she thought I was suggesting using the Drupal site's search function, which I was not.

Keep in mind my purpose is to be truly helpful.

By the way, don't bite a hand that feeds you.
I don't have to answer anybody's questions here.
I volunteer my time here and can choose to ignore anybody who acts like a jerk.

Your help is appreciated as long as you don't act as the jerk you are allowed to ignore.
So, feel free to provide any advice as long as you refrain from acting as a jerk!

My volunteer presence here, politely providing volunteer assistance to others, is clear and convincing evidence that I am never a jerk.

However, I have chosen to ignore questions from certain people over the years, hint hint ...
