This might be a media issue and not media gallery. The contextual links and title are not appearing on my gallery. I have a second gallery with version 7.1-beta8 and it has the links and titles

  • Contextual Links is on and the correct permissions are set.
  • Media Bulk Upload is on, only in the non-working gallery.
  • JQuery_update is on in the non-working gallery, but I have set it to Drupal default
  • The working site Media module is Version: 7.x-1.5 whereas this one is 7.x-2.x-dev

Really silly error - in the Display I changed the formatted from Gallery Thumbnail to Gallery Thumbnail Collection. (I noticed that the Collection on the main gallery (a view which is not used on this website) didn't have the edit button, and the penny dropped!)
