When trying to enable Slick Example (mainly for the example config settings), I get
Unable to install Slick Example, views.view.slick_x has unmet dependencies.
Slick, Slick UI, Slick Extras and Slick Views are enabled.

broonOh well, I missed the point about
So I am changing it to a feature request. I don't want any content examples or dummy content, I would just like to have the example configurations. If there would be a demo page demonstrating the various effects, I would be fine, too. Maybe I am just to overwhelmed with the options.
Currently, I just want a single main image and the rest of the images as a row of thumbs below. But somehow I keep failing to achieve that.
broonSometimes it just helps to write down the problem. I think I got it now. Took me a couple of hours tinkering around to realize that I need to define two configurations: one for the main image slider and a second one for the thumbnails slider below. In any case, may that help others who are stuck at the same point.

mhentry CreditAttribution: mhentry commented@Paul Broon: I am having same error wile trying to enable the module. Can you explain in detail how to get rid of this error.
Thank you.
broonSee comment #2, there is a quote from the module's page. You need to have these field with these exact (machine) names set up.
I actually didn't do that since I am working on a new site and just needed the configuration examples. I figured out myself, though, that I need two configurations (one for main image and one for thumbs).

gausarts CreditAttribution: gausarts commentedI am not sure what else to do with the project home page texts and README.txt.
My English is really poor.
If any native English can help improve the doc or wordings, I'll be grateful. Thank you.

mortona2k CreditAttribution: mortona2k at Forum One commentedHey, I just got the module to install - I'll try to clarify the instructions:
Specific to D8, these fields must exist before enabling Slick Example: field_image, field_images.
Create a new content type, "Slick" and add 2 image fields with these machine names, then enable the module.
This will help people get started. But I think a better fix in the future would allow the module to enable and set up the fields on it's own.

gausarts CreditAttribution: gausarts commentedThank you, yes, much more clear ;)
Added to the project home page, and will add it to the README.txt later so marking this a task.

barrypoore CreditAttribution: barrypoore commented#8 worked for me thanks, I was unable to create field_image as it already existed but adding image field => field_images did the trick
Comment #13
gkiritsop CreditAttribution: gkiritsop commentedNice.
#8 helped me to resolve it.
Yes, I created a New Content Type with name "Slick" and then I created two new fields, with machine name "field_image" and "field_images".
Then I enabled the "Slick Example" in menu "Extend" and...voila!
Thanks for the help!

jesse.chan CreditAttribution: jesse.chan commentedAccording to the posts above, I realized that I need to create a dummy content type with two fields: field_image and field_images;
When I was trying to do so, I got another error, the field name field_image already existed. It was defined in the build-in content type Article. Can anybody answer what I need to do? just define field_images or delete field_image in Article and redefine it in my dummy content type.
Please help, thanks!

ExTexan CreditAttribution: ExTexan commentedThis thread helped me get past the installation error, but I still think the ReadMe notes should be expanded.
1) It's not clear how the image fields should be configured. Is field_image supposed to allow a single value, and field_images be multi-value (unlimited?)?
2) Why do they both need to be added to the same content type? It seems that each node should have a single image, with text from that node showing in the slider. How would the multi-value (images?) field be used in that case?
After getting it installed, I placed the Slick X: Main block in my theme block settings, but I still don't see any slider content. I changed the block settings to include the content type (Article) that I placed my image fields on, but that didn't help either.

gausarts CreditAttribution: gausarts commentedIt does need proper documentation from user perspective which I obviously missed.
If anyone cares to write it down in English as an addition to #8, I would be very grateful, and will commit it in the README.txt and credit you in the next release.
Thank you! Truly appreciated.

Well, I followed the instructions... I believe!
I first used composer require to install all of the slick modules including 'extras'
Then enabled all but slick_example
Then I created a new content type called "Slideshow" and added two new 'image-type' fields called (machine name):
field_image
field_images
I did include a title field but not required, and no default image, alt, or title settings!
I edited the display to set the image style at 1200x495 resolution and kept the field names above for confirmation.
And gave them a 50MB file limit but left all resolution settings empty.
I confirmed that both fields were in place and assigned to the "slideshow" content type in reports/fields!
Then added a new slideshow node in which I uploaded I of the "field_image" and two of the "Filed_images" which display as expected!
When I tried to enable the Slick Example, I get:
Unable to install Slick Example due to unmet dependencies: views.view.slick_x (field.storage.node.field_image, field.storage.node.field_images)
I have tried to uninstall the 'slick_extras' AND the 'slick_example' via
drush pm-uninstall drupal/slick_extras
to start over, but the terminal responds:Extension drupal/slick_extras was not found and will not be uninstalled.
So I manually deleted the /modules/slick_extras folder, and ran '
drush cr
' , 'composer update
', 'drush cr
' and 'drush updb -y
' and then ran 'composer require drupal/slick_extras
' again!Which installed :
Using version ^1.0@RC for drupal/slick_extras
Enabled "Slick Extras" OK
Enabled "Slick Example"
Unable to install Slick Example due to unmet dependencies: views.view.slick_x (field.storage.node.field_image, field.storage.node.field_images)
So, what now?

Typo here, or on your setup, too?
bas123 CreditAttribution: bas123 as a volunteer commentedIssue fixed thanks to @gausarts
I had created the 'image' and 'images' as 'field_image' and 'field_images'
This rendered machine names as '
field_field_image', and 'field_field_images' respectivelyBy entering the field names simply as "image type" and name "image" and "images"
This rendered machine names as 'field_image', and 'field_images' respectively which solved the problem once I uploaded content into those Fields!

dschoni CreditAttribution: dschoni as a volunteer and commentedSo I followed the instruction above and created the 'image' and 'images' as 'field_image' and 'field_images', but I've got still the error:
"Unable to install Slick Example due to unmet dependencies: views.view.slick_x (field.storage.node.field_images)"
So what?
My opinion is, that I could just assume, that a module is working after an installation.
So it does not. Slick is not working on a freshly installed Drupal 9.
So it's worthless.
Sorry, but I've got enough.
Problems since years and still not solved.
I'm trying to install any other carousel.

gausarts CreditAttribution: gausarts commentedSorry for not being so friendly :)
> field.storage.node.field_images
As the complaint said, it wants the field at Node aka Content type, not other entities like Media, Paragraphs, etc.
Other issues might be just typo like above.
Let me see your screenshots of field addition form when adding the fields, or even after ones added, no problem.
Normally I can spot tiny typo unless sleepy :)

gausarts CreditAttribution: gausarts commented> It is a shame to have this issue unsolved for 7 years. The problem still exists...
I hope you can make it one way, or another :)
You can access solutions at:
Be sure to read the "fish" part :)
The same principle applies to most if not all contribs. So hopefully you could do something more useful for yourself early on from now on.
This issue is intentionally still left open to avoid unnecessary dups, not about being unsolved. After working with some contribs, I understand some people hardly RTFM. Open issues are more attractive than clear yet boring docs.
The solutions are exactly here and there all along for those who care to read enough. All you need to do is read aka RTFM. Unless we were a team of clairaudience, or on a Skype or Slack, etc., I cannot read it for you now from thousand miles away, my job was done after writing it, anyway. I have to continue living my own very short life, too. I hope you truly understand such a delicate situation of ours.
All in all, please take it from the bright side:
Slick example will help you learn the very basic Drupal site building -- that is creating fields. It will be very useful for your own highest good in the long run, I can assure you!
Once it is your second nature, you will be very grateful for learning this in the first place. No more useless complaints.
Nothing wasted.
Changed back to Support since Task to update docs was actually done years ago.
