I don't see any UTF-8 issues open; if there are this is probably a subset/related/duplicate.
Any character from the emoticon block (1F600 through 1F64F) will cause a 5xx error - first noticed with a [thumbsup] but confirmed with U+1F600. Same issues with a bunch of other unicode characters.

drummWe’ve upgraded Drupal.org sites to 7.50 or later, the database changes for the MySQL support still need to happen.

NickDickinsonWildeYeah I was guessing it was probably most of UTF8. Any chance of a filter/warning instead of a hard fail in the meantime or are those db changes planned for the near future?
