I apologize if this issue is filed in the wrong category. I installed Drupal 8 by following the directions on the site, then tried to do a minor update with drush and lost everything. All the instructions I can find elsewhere -- that is, not on drupal.org -- indicate that Composer is the only correct way to install and update Drupal 8. However, the download instructions on drupal.org do not even mention Composer!

I strongly suggest that the download links on the Drupal 8 pages of the site be changed to recommend Composer as the preferred method of installing Drupal 8, and remove the links to the tarball and zip files, as these will cause people to have very bad experiences like I had. Thank you for your consideration.

Composer is not the preferred way to install Drupal 8, nor is Drush. It is still possible to install Drupal using the archive file made available from the project page, so it's unlikely the links will be removed from the Drupal core project page.
