I think it would be helpful if, instead of being a direct link to the workbench page, the Workbench tab in the system toolbar behaved like the other toolbar tabs; this would also mean that users could access the workbench local tasks from any page on the site:

The attached patch:

  • Creates a "Workbench" menu for the workbench menu items
  • Removes the workbench local tasks
  • Changes the toolbar item from a link to a tray containing the workbench menu
  • Copies/updates the toolbar icon so that we can drop in custom per-item icons

Very cool. I think using the pencil icon looks odd. Perhaps we should do what Shortcut does and not use an icon for each link item.
