Selected item is not populated after upgrading to ctools 7.x-1.11

After upgrading ctools to version 1.11 I'm experiencing major issues with Entity Reference View Widget. It was working fine before the upgrade.

After selecting the item in the view and submitting, it is not shown in the form (the ajax call throws an error. Submitting the form fails). I'm getting the following warning:
