Display extra question fields

So I have added a taxonomy reference to Multiple choice and Scale questions for the survey/questionnaire I'm making. The taxonomy has an image field tso that when I'm showing a question node I can also display the image that's been added to the taxonomy term that the question node is referencing. In writing this I realise that I could possibly add an image field to the question instead, but as one image serves a bunch of questions, and there are other fields attached to the images that I want to display at the end of the quiz in a separate view (which I can do), it seems to make sense to do it this way (so I don't have to upload (and the user download) many copies of the same image.

So what can't I do...

well.. though I can display the terms image field using a view when I view the node using a display suite view mode, it won't appear when I take the quiz.

Alternatively I can't see how to create a view and use a contextual filter to display fields related to the quiz node, but not how to display fields relating the the current question being displayed particularly as the number in the url after take is the step in the quiz rather than the nid of the question.

Is what I'm needing to do possible?? Am I missing something obvious? I hope I've explained it well enough.
