PDFs - list in a node or put each in separate node for views?

The intranet I'm designing has many many PDFs, of different categories of course. Which is a better practice?

1) put each PDF in a separate node, using the upload file field, so they can be displayed in views; OR

2) create links to them on a page, simply linking to a PDF that's already sitting on the server. For example, a Basic Page would look like this, with each item linking to a PDF:

Fruit

• apples
• bananas
• peaches

Vegetables

• green beans
• corn
• peas
