I found this request for the D7 branch and wondered why this feature does not seem to have made it into D8? https://www.drupal.org/node/1903880
Or am I missing something?
I think there is a very common usecase for that. Nodetype A references several Nodetype B. I want to display B in a (Views-) Grid so my view filters A from the NID in the URL and then has a relationship set to the entity referencefield referencing B. This works well when choosing "fields" as I can chose the relationship as source for fields but not for "content" or "ds content" as there is no option to chose the relation?

#1903880: Use relationship as source for Display Suite View display plugin didn't even make it in either in 7.x - not need to have two issues.
