I have some long (eg. 3000 words) articles which I would like to publish across multiple pages rather than have the reader scroll and scroll and scroll. Can anyone tell me how to do this?

Paging module
Have you tried the Paging module? I think it does what you're looking for.
Yes, I've enabled this but
Yes, I've enabled this but it seems wonky. It splits my article wherever I insert the pagebreak, but it didn't add in a Next or Page 2 button
so I can't get to the rest of the article.
Working but not ideal
Managed to get this up and running. However the naming of the pages is not great for SEO.
Page 2 ends with .../articlename?page=0%2C1
Page 3 ends with .../articlename?page=0%2C3
and page one of the original article gets a new URL .../articlename?page=0%2C0
The 'Add new comment' button appears on all pages not just the last one of the article and CCK fields such as Date and Author
appear on all three pages not just the first one.
If anyone knows which files need to be tweaked to fix these issues that would be appreciated.
