Hide file page from Search engines

Hi,

Could not find much information around blocking the /file page from getting found on search engines.

I understand I can put a block in the robots.txt file. However, is there a way to stop the /file page and not the actual file from getting indexed on Google.

Is this a default? Essentially would not be ideal if all the /file page shows up in Google.

Has anyone had any experience with this issue?
