Support for Drupal 7 is ending on 5 January 2025—it’s time to migrate to Drupal 10! Learn about the many benefits of Drupal 10 and find migration tools in our resource center.
Pantheon currently has Solr 3 installed. Search API Solr asks for version 4 or higher. Indexing and searching still works with mismatched versions but we should still offer a version that is official compatible before calling this module Beta.

DamienMcKennaThere's also the fact that the Search API Solr Multilingual module requires Solr looks for 4.5.0, /schema/dynamicFields and /schema/fieldTypes, and the APIs were only added to 4.4.0.

stevectorThanks Damien,
We don't have a public timeline on updating Solr. I expect our engineering team will take up the issue after finishing some higher priority work that also had been waiting for our Google Cloud migration to complete.
One question we'll need to answer before starting on a Solr update in earnest is whether interest in Drupal and WordPress has moved to Elasticsearch over Solr.
Since this issue has sat so long I will just do a full release of 8.x-1.x on this module to be compatible 8.x-1.x of search_api_solr and address higher versions of Solr or Elasticsearch in an 8.x-2.x when Pantheon infrastructure updates.
DamienMcKennaGiven this module finally has a 1.0 release, it might be worth noting on the project page that it only works with the 8.x-1.0-beta1 version of the Search API Solr module (which isn't supported).
DamienMcKennaClarification, Search API Solr 8.x-1.x looses support in March 2019, per its project page:
stevectorGood call, thanks Damien. I've copied over the section on versions from the README to the project page.
DamienMcKennaThanks Steve. Happy holidays!

BrightBoldLooks like Search API Solr has extended the EOL date:
Hopefully that will give Pantheon a chance to resolve this before it's unsupported.

breidert CreditAttribution: breidert at 1xINTERNET commentedHey Steve,
the supported Solr version (3.6) is EOL,
the required Search API Version (8.x-1.x) will be EOL in December 2019.
Will Solr be supported on Pantheon in the future, or do we need to look for other Solr-Hosting solutions for our projects hosted on Pantheon.
Thx

jhedstromGiven that Drupal 9 is approaching, sites targeting a launch of early next year really need to be forward-looking in terms of which modules are setup/configured. Search API Solr 1.x is not going to be Drupal 9 compatible, so that means aiming for 3.x, which means Pantheon compatibility is crucial at this stage.

Chris Matthews CreditAttribution: Chris Matthews as a volunteer and at City of Oaks Design commentedAgreed and IMO the priority of this issue should be set to Major.
generalredneckThat's not to say someone won't patch it given Pantheon is such a heavily used platform. D9.0 should be D8 compatible with deprecation removed as mentioned by Dries's blog

Given that it is now December 2019, and Search API Version (8.x-1.x) is now EOL. I thought I'd look into this a bit more.
I just had a very unsatisfying chat with Pantheon support about Pantheon/Drupal and Solr. (All responses were prefaced with "As of today,"). LOL.
Any updates or information you can give us?

SimonLawrence CreditAttribution: SimonLawrence commentedIs there any update on this? Search API Solr is recommending updating:
However, we can't update to this due to a requirement lock on Search API Pantheon module.

DamienMcKennaThere was an announcement recently that Acquia was going to sponsor support of the Search API Solr 8.x-1.x module for another year, but I can't find it off-hand.

DamienMcKennaI opened a request for the Search API Solr maintainers to update the project page: #3113118: Update status of 8.x-1.x branch on project page

ccshannon CreditAttribution: ccshannon commentedFacing this same issue, I recently revisited Pantheon's page about Solr (https://pantheon.io/docs/solr), and this has been added:
"Currently, the version of Solr on Pantheon is Apache Solr v3.6.
If your search needs include geospatial search, emojis, or multilingual search, consider OpenSolr or another alternative search.
Pantheon Search supports Search API Solr 8.x-1.x, which is currently unsupported by Solr. Search API Solr 8.x-1.x should continue to work as long as the Search API Pantheon module is also being used, following the installation directions below."
So, it sounds like the potential solution is to move search to a 3rd-party like OpenSolr. The announcement implies there is no current plan to upgrade Solr on Pantheon. At least, that's how I read it. I may be off-base.

mkalkbrennerI just want to mention that Search API Solr 4.x contains a sub-module called Search API Solr Legacy.
This module provides Solr 4, 5 and 6 support for Drupal 8 and 9.
In theory it would be possible to extend it to support Solr 3, too.

akalata CreditAttribution: akalata commentedThanks to everyone for keeping this page updated! It's disappointing that Pantheon appears to have chosen to abandon their Solr offering, since that is one of the big draws for my clients.

dalinHi all,
There is effort to get this working with Search API Solr 4 (and Drupal 9) over here: #3185736: Upgrade for Search API Solr 4 (and Drupal 9).
I'll close this one up since the other ticket has a fork/patch.
