I recently decided to create a site in Drupal 8 for no other reason than to learn a different platform. I installed a theme that seems to advertise itself on the bottom of the theme:

"Paxton ported to drupal by DropThemes.in"

Is it typical for theme developers to do this and are there ethical concerns with figuring out how to use them? It might be different if it was a personal blog, but if I'm authoring for a commercial client, it would be unacceptable to leave that in as I would be soon asked why I developed their website that promotes a different firm other than their own (and would be asked to remove it immediately and face consequences)

As I'm new with Drupal and DropThemes appears to be prominent in the community, is this a common practice for Drupal-based tools?

Drupal themes are GNU General Public License, version 2 or later. You can remove the text/link/image from the theme without issue. Some themes provide a feature to disable in the theme settings. Others are hard coded in the theme file.
