I've removed the field collection I was using in a content type.
The checkbox to disable the Field Collection module, though, cannot be handled and stays checked (as showed in the attachment).
I had in mind to try the latest dev version, but I don't know how to go on.

I'm not sure uninstall support has been looked at at all yet. It will definitely need to be covered.

I don't think there have been any changes that should require it. You could try replacing the code with the latest version and see if it still works.

The "Needs Review" status means the issue has a patch file that needs to be tested. Issues that do not yet have a patch are "Active".

How I succeeded:

* "drush pm-uninstall field_collection"
* "rm -r" of the directory field_collection
