Hello y'all, I would like to know what is required (theme, modules, etc) to build a website where people can shop from. Thanks.

At the risk of igniting
At the risk of igniting controversy - use Drupal 7.
While Drupal Commerce is just coming online for D8 (it's in alpha AFAIK), key submodules such as Commerce Paypal, Commerce UPS and Commerce FedEx are not available for D8 yet.
The other ecommerce system for Drupal, Ubercart, is also in alpha.
Feeling lucky? No? then stick with D7 for now.
If you want a demo of what can be done with Commerce, install the Kickstart distro, just to see how it works.

For commerce
There's a demo shop in the kickstarter demo https://www.drupal.org/project/commerce_kickstart
It's meant to be a demo of what you can do with drupal commerce but I've used it on serveral commerce sites which have been running for several years. Not looking forward to upgrading to drupal 8 though

If your needs for a shopping
If your needs for a shopping cart isn't complex and you want something easy to manage, take a look at Ubercart 3.x as well: https://www.drupal.org/project/ubercart
