Description

OpenEDU Social is a group of contrib modules and configurations which provide the following 4 services:

  1. Social Authentication (see OpenEDU Identity for more details) using using hybridauth and the hybridauth library
  2. Social Share using Social Field
  3. Social Publication which relies on fb_autopost to publish content to social platforms.  To extend the reach of fb_autopost, consider using ifttt.com recipes
  4. Social Curation using Social Content module to create nodes from social media posts.

Administration

Each of the modules above provide excellent documentation regarding configuration and operation.  The notes here provide some additional insight relative to the module's use within OpenEDU.

Social Authentication

These modules are envisioned to be used to authenticate non-traditional site visitors (e.g. parents and family of students, alumni, etc.) providing the EDU with an opportunity to customize an experience for a visitor wishing to self-identify.  Navigate to admin/config/people/hybridauth to being the configuration process.

Social Share

Social share utilizes the Social Field module to enable integration with social publishing platforms.  To configure social links:

  • Navigate to /admin/config/media/socialfield to select the fields to display.
  • Navigate /admin/structure/types to modify those content types you wish to display social share icons
  • Add a new field of type Social Links

Social Publication

Social publication enables the content administrator to post content created on a Drupal site to a facebook account.

  • Enable the modules fb_autopost and OpenEDU Social Autopost
  • Navigate to /admin/config/services/fbautopost configure fb_autopost
  • Navigate to the content type from which you may post to Facebook (e.g. admin/structure/types/manage/news).  On the OpenEDU Social Autopost tab, select "Allow Content to be Posted to Social Networks"
  • Create or edit a piece of content and select the OpenEDU Social Autopost tab and set Post to Facebook Page=True

Utilizing services at ifttt.com you may create all sorts of rules to publish content from your Facebook page to over 300 other social media platforms.

Social Curation

Social curation may be thought of as the opposite of social publishing.  Utilizing the Social Content module, you may create entities (content nodes) from content created on social media.  The advantage to this is your social media content may now be indexed, searched and displayed on your site, utliizing your preferred theme and branding.
