Support for Drupal 7 is ending on 5 January 2025—it’s time to migrate to Drupal 10! Learn about the many benefits of Drupal 10 and find migration tools in our resource center.
Many projects are already using Devel 8.x-1.x. Could you please tag unstable releases every now and then, so Devel can safely be pulled in as a dependency?

mpotter CreditAttribution: mpotter commentedYes, please at least tag an alpha release. This is especially important for composer-based projects where it's a bad idea to reference dev-master since we need some sort of version number.

lussolucaAn alpha release is ok for me.
However I'll work on open bug reports at the next Drupal Dev Days (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1h70sYdzufJ002r08I0rsL90SNP_At81L...), if someone will be available that week we can speed up the release of a stable version.
At the moment the main blocker for a stable version is the devel_node_access sub-module.

willzyx CreditAttribution: willzyx commented+1 IMHO devel still need a lot of love an work before a stable release but an alpha release is ok for me.
salvisI expect to have some time to work on DNA in July. Maybe earlier...
Tagging an alpha release makes sense.
lussoluca@salvis let me know if I can help you in some way
Comment #8
salvisI'll be glad to have you review DNA once I've cleaned it up, and to ask specific questions if I hit a wall along the way.
Thanks in advance, lussoluca!
XanoThanks! Core used to have releases with the
unstable
tag instead ofalpha
. Perhaps Devel can use that too?Comment #10
willzyx CreditAttribution: willzyx commentedCurrently devel (except for devel_node_access) is quite stable an usable. IMHO using
unstable
tag do not reflect the module statusComment #11
Dane Powell CreditAttribution: Dane Powell at Acquia commented+1 to any sort of tag, just to make composer installs easier. alpha seems appropriate to me.
lussolucaI RTBC this but I don't have the permissions to tag a release, @moshe or @willzyx could you do that?
willzyx CreditAttribution: willzyx commentedCreated and pushed 8.x-1.0-alpha1 tag but I have not the permission to mark 8.x-1.0-alpha1 as the current release. Assigning to Moshe

moshe weitzman CreditAttribution: moshe weitzman at Acquia commentedI created the release. If anyone cares to writeup release notes, post here and I will add them.
