Saving the time a taxonomy term is added

I need to save the time and date a taxonomy term is added to a user profile.
What would be the best way to achieve that?
It cannot be done with rules and actions since it doesn't generate an event.
There is a module which saves this data for taxonomy term itself but I need to save the time an existing term is added to a profile.
