Convenience links

On a host entity's manage fields form, the dropdown/button for field collection fields could include an option to go to the manage fields form for that field collection.

Likewise, the final step of the field creation process for a field collection could include a more prominent link to manage the field collection fields. There's already one in the "default value" fieldset but I'd question whether that fieldset needs to even show for field collections. It might make more sense to remove it completely and replace the "Save settings" with a dropdown/button that has "Save and edit host fields" and "Save and edit field collection fields"
