User statistics provide metrics of authority by which to judge the replies of other users on their forum topic.

Useful metrics might include:

  • How many times a users' topics and comments have been flagged as 'helpful' (more or less, karma for forums)
  • # of topics posted
  • # of comments posted
  • # of comments marked as the best reply
  • Presence of moderator/webmaster role(s)

Gathering this data about forum participation would help serve the mission of gather information on all types of contributions (not just code). This is another area that should be addressed in a holistic way as we look at the support systems on Drupal.org - rather than being added completely in isolation. This also will be dependent on what kinds of features we add to the forums (voting, 'best reply', etc..)

Implementation Details:

  • Fields on the user
  • Incremented as the related flags are incremented
  • Need to be selectively displayed only within forums
